What Will You Learn?
Learning to play cello is like learning to play a new sport in an unfamiliar language. My approach to learning the cello aims to develop a student’s musical toolbox: skills and knowledge that we need to build, just like how an athlete builds muscle or a philosopher critiques their theory.
Technique

Just as an athlete might train to be able to jump higher, we must train our bodies to produce the sound we want to hear. Technique is essentially another word for skill. As string players, our craft demands a high level of various types of coordination, which I can help you train.
Music as a language
Gain an understanding of the theoretical basis of the Western Classical music tradition. When we look at a musical score, what are we able to learn by accessing what we already know? We should learn to read music as we would read a book, by connecting the symbols (or words) we see to our experience as human beings.
